Going in the back door, a good place to start.

South facade

You want to see what’s inside, right? After that quick tour of the outside, you know you want to. Ok, hold your breath, were going in!

Just inside the back door--the kitchen.

After our exterior reconnaissance , GWH and I climbed the back steps, unlocked the padlock and did a quick inside tour. Although I had been inside many times over the past 25 years, this time was different,  truly a revelation. When I looked around I saw Jane in a whole new light. And then I threw up in my mouth a little bit.

The sink, ugh!

There was a lot of stuff. Moving right along…

The boarded up windows made it dark, even at noon.

We encounter more stuff and stacked boxes. Undaunted, we made our way to the next room…

Did I mention the house was used for storage?

The front room where we found a lot more stuff. But also luxurious wall to wall carpet. A chandelier. Did you like the Sixties? Then you are going to love these curtains!

Ah yes, the curtains. Where is Scarlet O'Hara when you need her?

And finally we finished our tour in room number four, the storage room!!

The "storage" room.

We found the door to the staircase that led us up to the attic.

Watch your head!

And, voila! The attic.

Oh my.

Well, the chimney was kind of cool.

The mud daubers like the chimney, too!

By now you are probably wondering why I didn’t run away, screaming, tearing my hair, never to return. Why would anyone entertain the idea of renovating this place? Well, let me show you two more pictures.  You see, if you walk out the door and stand on the concrete steps…

stand here

You see this…

Maybe not so crazy, after all?

You know, insanity kind of creeps up on you.
